I made these for the Team Spirit Challenge "you say its your birthday". Were we make something for a character in our given Teams program.

I chose to make these circle socks for Walter in Stargate Command. He's the guy who dials the Stargate to other worlds. He's very cool in my opinion (just don't let him talk your ear off), so deserves a nice comfy pair of socks that look like little Stargates :D

As you can see I've modelled them on myself and I love them very much.

I made them with my new 2.25mm circular needles and Schoppel-Woole Admiral Ombre Yarn I got from Sock Yarn Shop.

I also got the pattern from Ravelry. Its a free download from Anne Campbell.

I love these socks. There so comfy, I'm wearing them right now. I think we are going to live happily ever after :D

NerdWars - Team Stargate Command - Giving Geeks

Answering the Giving Geeks Challenge for NerdWars T3 Month 1.

I decided to buy something from Sue Rider Care as they have a charity shop in my town. I don’t have much but I give what I can when I can.

I visited them today and found this dvd in there. It’s been on my dvd must have list forever and I’ve finally got it for my collection. I don’t generally buy brand new if I can find it in there. It may take some time but its worth the surprise as I never know what I might find.

Team Tie in: Sam Carter’s Dad was diagnosed with cancer and it was terminal. He didn’t have much time left and was being cared for in hospital.

SG-1 had got in touch with the Tok’ra, an off shoot from the Gao’uld but not evil like them, to seek out an alliance. The Tok’ra thought an alliance meant that they wanted to “blend” (become hosts) with them. This is a symbiotic relationship between both Tok’ra and human giving them strength, long life and the ability to heal most ailments in a human. Unlike a Gao’uld that takes over the host.

Cutting a long story short, Sam Carter’s Dad was asked to become a host to Selmak, the leader of the Tok’ra who’s previous host was coming to the end of her life.
Selmak healed him and they lived quite happy with each other.

Nerd Wars - Team Stargate Command - Colourtastic Challenge

Got Stargate will travel to get tasty baked treats from the oven.

From the moment I saw this pattern I knew I was going to make a stargate from it.

Made for the Technical Challenge in Month 1 T3. Colourtastic.

I made a slight change (apart from the colours) in that I made a second oval and stitched both ovals together before construction. I also used 2 strands through out the piece to give the wormhole the effect that it needed.

Also the ovals inside are made to look like the interconnecting wormhole that connects both Stargates together to achieve travel from world to world.
I think it looks very cute.

A Gao'uld Bookmark

I laid my trap then waited for it to make its way over, then........

SPLAT!! and all it took was a book and knitting needle. That wasn't so hard. I could totally go out and fight with SG1. Sign me up!

I was gone for a while there wasn't I! Sorry! I was just having a break that's all but I've been tweeting and if your on there just hit that follow button and tweet me saying you found me here and I'll follow you back. No spammers please, I eat spam for breakfast! YUM YUM!

I've been a busy bee knitting, crocheting, sewing and gaming and of course enjoying my little one when he comes to visit me :D

I made these beauties for my Mum. She loves green and is always wearing fingerless gloves.

I'm learning more and more about knitting and I made these two hats on straight needles and mattress stitched them down the side. I think came out lovely and they keep my head really warm especially now since I've had my hair cut short.

Time for me to go and get a brew. Anyone want one??

January Musings

I've been neglecting my blog since new year, I'm so sorry, I shall have to try harder.

I have been working hard on my diet (I've lost 4 pounds during January, Yay!), but I must keep it up. I know I can do it but I've been craving naughty food all week, my will power is holding fast but just about. I've also noticed that my energy levels have risen a bit and I think this might be down to my diet. I have fish and chips last weekend (a treat for my little boy) and the day after I felt quite sluggish so I won't be doing that again any time soon.

I've also had my haircut, its really short. I've had it short before but I think this is the shortest.

I've also finished the Doctor Who scarf I made for my brother @Fr3ck5. I'll post about that next time.

Other than that I've been mostly knitting and gaming. I'm really into knitting socks right now but I'm still scared of circular knitting (I know how to, the needles are always too long though), so I've been making them on straights and there turning out nicely.

Happy New Year and My 2011 Resolution

I hope you all have a wonderful year

My New Years resolution is to go on a diet and loose some weight.

I know that resolutions are renound for only lasting a few days but I've been determined to do this all Christmas and I'm going to start as of tomorrow.

It's going to be a long journey as I can't exercise (I would rather be doing that than dieting), but I'm sure I shall prevail in my endevors.

My diet is call:

Cut the Crap Out Diet

Basically I cut out all the tempting yummy treats; biscuits, chocolates, chips, etc. and instead eat only stuff that is good for me.

I do like the healthy stuff so this shouldn't be too bad but I do get bad cravings for chocolate that I shall have to watch out for.

Are there any good healthy recipes that you can recommend?

Please post your suggestions in the comment box, I'd love to try them.

I own a GypsyDancer Masterpiece

In March I took part in National Crochet Month Freeform Crochet Along where I won the most love to win a Gypsy Dancer yarn bowl. I was thrilled to have won as I'm someone who doesn't win things (I think I won a flask when I was 13).

After a small wait so my prize would be perfect I received it from Mr Posty this week along with a little surprise.

Here's the box it came in, I'm sure she was making like Christmas as it took my ages to get through all the blue tape that was wrapped around it, it I succeeded in the end and here's is my prize.

Isn't it just gorgeous! and the cupcake pin cushion is yummilicious!

If I was stranded on a desert beach I would have these items in my must save collection :) Other objects in my list are: yarnstash, needles and hooks and my little boy (not necessarily in that order).

I'm sure there's other stuff vital to my survival but these are my top three :)

My mum is always cooing over the crochet and knitted toys I show her so I thought I'd make her some for Christmas. I haven't shown her these pattern so they should be a complete surprise to her and she's Frog Mad! So I hope she really digs these.

Doctor Who Progress so far

Well I say progress. I was doing really well but the pattern I was working from (Rowan Yarn) seems a little short and when I investigated I realised that the pattern was short by half and all colour blocks ;(

I was making such great progress too (hence why I've not been blogging so much). I couldn't let this lie so I've started again with the proper pattern from Doctor Who Scarf Site

I'm now on the 8th row of the first 52 rows of beige. Yikes!

Dr Who Scarf Journey begins

I've been set the task of making the Season 12 Dr Who scarf as worn by Tom Baker for my dear brother @fr3cks.

My first challenge was to find similar yarns to match the American ones that I cannot hope to get hold of with my meagre budget. I finally settled on Patons Fab dk and Hayfield/Sirday Bonus dk.

Here are the Shades I settled on:

These colours are as close as match as I could get with exception of the Red. I fear this may be a little too bright a red, but we'll see. I may be fretting for now reason.

Homegrown Strawberry and a HomeMade Blackberry Pie

I've been a busy little bee these past few weeks. We Ooo'd and Aaar'd at our Strawberry that grew in my little garden.

This was promptly being eaten a few seconds later. I'm very lucky to have taken a photo.

My Brother @Altias (twitter) and I (@jelibe) went blackberry picking the other day and just in time too cause the council were using there power saws to chop it all up! I was agast but we got stuck in and we managed to get 2 cups of blackberries which I've made for my pie today.

This recipe is very easy and was really tasty. I'd really recommend Ice cream, cream or custard with this. I got the recipe from this site and its called Simple Blackberry Pie. If your a beginner like me this is a great one to start with. You can't really go round, even if, like me, you don't get enough shortcrust pastry for it (note to self: buy more next time). Its very forgiving as you can see I just did a pastry top.

I couldn't wait to taste it before taking a picture so that's my portion eaten, I can't hide from the truth, I'm the only one here! ha ha!

New Mobile Phone

I've had a GREAT day today ☺ I've had my hair cut (that's always a good start). Its an inverted bob. I've also signed up for a new mobile phone contract with virgin mobile. Its a 24 month one at £20 per month. I'm getting a Samsung Wave free with it.

Looks yummy. I've been umming an awwing all day wondering if I should go for it and this evening I've taking the plunge (its a freeing feeling). I've not had a "new" phone for a long time, I've generally had hand me down phones but not this time. I'm an independent lady and I need a new phone ☺

DFAD Freeform knit along and crochet along

I've been given the privilege of being Designer for the Day (DFAD) on GypsyDancers freeform frolic over at Ravelry and here's what I've come up with. This is for both.

Whilst trying to remember the rhyme that I'd sang in school many moons ago, I asked my twitter buds how it went. There were a couple of variations, One was to catch a tiger and the other an Indian. I remember the rhyme below as the one I sang in school.

I was also asked the question: what happens if the baby doesn't scream? well...I wouldn't drop the baby then would I! LOL

Week 13 DFAD instruction - July 18th 2010

My theme is picking, what to chose, I know I struggle with picking. So here’s a rhyme to help.

Iney, meany, miney, mo,
catch a baby by its toe,
if it screams,
let it go,
iney meany miney mo.

Yarn

Now go gather your loose balls of yarn and line them up in a neat little line and say the rhyme pointing at each yarn as you say each syllable. Mo is the yarn your working with.

Hooks/needles

Do the same with all your needles.

Stitch amount.

Small

The amount of words in the rhyme.

Large

times the number in small by 7 for the month of July.

Stitch.

We’ve had some great instructions over the weeks. Lets use the rhyme to chose one. Maybe gather up all the ones you haven’t done, the ones that have worried you. Now say the rhyme with those and the one that lands on Mo is the one your doing.

If you'd like to do this instruction, just gather up all your fav patterns and say the rhyme to pick one.

I've been happily working away on my knit/crochet a long that I've been following over on 2 Ravelry groups and I thought I'd share with you my work so far. This is 12 weeks with 40 more to go.

My day at the Park

I don't often get to the park these days, but a few days ago I was given a wheelchair to use and I just had to give it a whirl and go to the park with my little boy. So yesterday we did. With my Mum pushing me for all she's worth we set off with my trusty camera and my little one whizzing around on his new scooter next to me.

The first place we visited was the duck pond. It had changed a bit since I'd last been there. Wild colourful flowers swayed in the breeze and little ducklings and their mums and dads swam around.

We then made our way to the play park where Bade really enjoyed himself.

On the way home, Bade chased a squirrel up a tree, the poor thing dropped his nut (the squirrel not Bade, lol)

And I got a bargain at the local charity shop :)

We had a really great day. Had lots of fun with my mum and brother Jim who chased Bade around the play park for me :D

When we got home, Bade fell asleep. Its the first time in a LONG time that he's had a nap before tea! We shall have to go to the park again and soon!

Happy 4th Birthday

It was my little one's 4th Birthday this week and we celebrated with a party with some of his friends.

He really wanted a Sporticus Costume and that's just what he got. I also made him a cake. Victoria sponge with Strawberry Jam, Strawberries and Double Cream for the filling YUM!

We had a great spread as well,

By the end I was pulling my hair out!

It was all worth it in the end. A great day, great weather, great friends and family and great food.

Special thanks goes to my friend and neighbour Toni for all her help and taking the photos and to my Bro Mark and Louise for all their help on the day and finally to my bro Paul running me round at the last minute! I couldn't have done it without you guys :D

Sweet Feet

About 6 months ago I got an issue of Inside Crochet and found this great pattern for socks called sweet feet. I just had to make them even though I'd never made a pair of socks before. 6 months later I've finally finished them.

I don't know why its taken me so long to finish these, possibly because I'm always getting sidetracked making other great things. One of those was an easy pair of chunky socks and after finishing the sweet feet I'm made a pair of knitting socks in only 4 days!

My little boy wanted to get in on the picture take of my knitted 2 needle socks. Made with Stylecraft Wondersoft Baby dk and 4mm needles.

Sweet feet wasn't a hard pattern to make, I was just lazy with it, but now they are done, I love them. Its great to make something then immediately wear them.

knitting in the round

I've not long been knitting, but something I've always wanted to do is knit a pair of socks. How hard can it be? I mean, crocheting socks is easy as pie!

I've got 4 dpns in a size 3.25mm and I set about asking the question in my favorite Ravelry Forum, What's the best way to make socks, with dpns or circular needles? I was given some great advice and as I already had the dpns I'd better practice with those to see if I actually enjoyed knitting in the round.

I was told that making a pair of socks as my first project would be quite a challenge and maybe I should start with fingerless gloves. That's a great idea, I thought! I need some as my little hands get cold when I'm crocheting, knitting or typing on here.

I clicked my way over to youtube and found a great little video on working with dpns.

Here's a picture of what i did in two rounds. Pretty good isn't it :D

I'm surprised out how easy it is to work in the round. I'm going to make a pair of fingerless gloves very soon :D

Freeform Crochet and Knitting Fun & Frivolity

This last week saw the start to 2 new crochet and knit freeform extravaganzas that I'm proud to take part in for the year.

Both of these freeform projects are for 52 weeks and are hosted by two very grand and lovely ladies over at Ravelry.

The First freeform is Freeform crochet Fun and Frivolity by Cro-kween's intrepid Knights of the Freeformed Table and her freeform is all about crochet. (GypsyDancer is our leader for this freeform as well as the knitting one below.)

We have been tasked to make "something" this time. I've chosen to either have my project grow into a bag or a cushion cover. My heart seems to be leaning towards the cover but we'll see how it goes.

So far we've had one instruction (one a week) and here is my work so far.

We had to go outside and find a flower. This wasn't so easy for me so I chose to look on the internet for my fave flower. I really love the Stargazer lily so this was the basis for my instruction.

Count the number of petals on your flower and multiply this by the number of letters in the flowers name.

This for me was 6 x 13.

The number of rows was 4 for the Month of April.

I chose to use Sirdar click dk with wool for the yarn choice and the hook was 3mm.

We had a choice of stitches we could use too. DC, TC, or DTC. We could use a more experieced stitch if we wanted too. Its our freeform afterall.

I ended up doing a who host of different stitches. single crochet, half dc, linked dc, linked tc, etc.

I started with the magic ring and did 4 sc in the ring. I then chained 20 and did 18 dc back down the chain (4 x). I continued with varying stitches to give the peice a flower look. Each "petal" opening out from the center.

For the second freeform its all about knitting.

She has a fabulous Etsy Shop selling yarn bowls and pots. Beautiful and elegant, a real must see (and possible buy).

This first instruction starts with us multipling our teaspoons with sharp knives to give us our starting stitches. This for me is 66.

Then to think of our favourite vegetable. A family fave in our house is brocolli. The number of rows is dictated by the number of letters in the word.

Needle size is 3mm and colour is inspired by the vegetable. I've chosen to use a yarn that reflected the needle choice, so its a 4 ply grey yarn for me.

We had 3 choices of stitch we could use.

Chinese Wave, Moss Stitch and Simple Slip.

I've chosen Moss Stitch as I know this one. I'm still very new to knitting so progress was slow. It took me a day to do the 8 rows but I think they've come out really lovely.

There are changes afoot!

You may have noticed something different, well...I've changed! Well the blog has anyway.
I really wanted to change my template to 3 columns but that meant I had to change everything!! These things never take 5 minutes, in fact it probably took me 3 hours!! Good Grief! Changing stuff takes FOREVER!!!

After fiddling around with this and that, codes and other stuff I've not a clue about, I've finally finished, well, sort off....

You may have noticed that my lovely header has gone and is now a pretty butterfly. I do like butterflies but I loved my header even more. I tried sorting it out in the normal fashion, but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this?? If you have any ideas, please leave me a comment and I'll try your ideas out.

Now that, that's all done, I'm going to make a daffodil for the Spring Cal I'm taking part in.

Peaceful Harmony Throw, Finally completed.

I've been working on this blanket since 21st October 2009 and its finally completed, washed, dried and given to my lovely SMum and Dad as a housewarming present.

It was supposed to be much larger than this, but after 66 rows, I'd had enough. After making that decision I felt happier in myself. I've added the border in the same green, which ties all the colours nicely together. All the yarn I've used are dk weight and acrylic.

My parents think its wonderful, which is the main thing. I hope it keeps them warm when the weathers cold for many years to come.

After my success with my first freeform cal, I've taken the plunge and signed up to a couple more cals (crochet alongs), I saw a couple, more like many!!! What have I let myself in for. I hope I can cope! I'm happy to be taking part in an ongoing crochet/knit along called knit a square, where each 8" square made goes to South Africa and sewn together to make warm blankets for orphans. If you'd like to find out more just click on the link, a contribution, no matter how small is grateful. If you can't knit or crochet you can donate. This helps the running costs and wages for the people who sew these squares together, thus helping the community as a whole.

I've also signed up to take part in another freeform cal on Ravelry and a tiny whale/daffodile cal. I really loved making my first freeform and didn't want the party to end so in starting a new freeform cal, I'm keeping in touch with the friends I've made and the laughter can continue. Anyways... I think they might miss me :D

I've made one of PlanetJune's Tiny Whales already but I really love them and the more the merrier as they say. You can't just make one.

Handmade Shopping Spree

I love shopping, I especially love it when its craft related and I went on a little spree this week on the net and bought a few things on the net.

I've wanted to get some wooden crochet hooks for a while now but as also I wanted to get a good bargain. I did just that. I got 3 (9,10 and 12mm) hooks from Scandinavian Knitting Design . They were only around £3.50 each and the postage was very reasonable. I was really impressed. Mr Postman delivered them in no time at all and I love using them :D They are really light and the yarn slides nicely on them.

I was searching on Ebay the other day when I came across this beautiful specimen. This is a hand turned and carved wooden crochet hook. This is the description:

I made this Crochet Hook out of African Gabon Ebony, Thuya burl and Black Ash Burl. The Thuya burl has a nice medium brown color with darker cluster burl eyes. The cream colored Box Elder Burl is a nice contrast between the Ebony and Thuya Burl. The segments of wood are bonded on a 45-degree angle. This crochet hook is a size “L” 7.0mm and is seven and one eighth inch long.

This beautiful hook cost just $18.20 (£12.00) with $5.00 Postage. I think this is my most treasure possession and I'll treasure it forever (I may use it occasionally too).

I've always been fasinated with Etsy, but I've not had the courage til now to purchase anything from them. These gorgeous stitch markers got me to sign up and count my pennies.

If your ever on Etsy or like me, an Etsy virgin! You should definitely got over and see Ellifants shop over there and pick up some loveliness. These little markers are for me but I'm going to be checking other handmade buys for birthday and Christmas gifts in the future.

National Crochet Month FreeForm Crochet Along 2010

For the Month of March I've have been partying away, chatting to friends and taking part in this years Freeform Cal 2010.

Everyday there was a designer for the day, who added a pattern to add onto our work. This could be anything and interpreted anyway we felt. We had days where we had to count all our plates and food in our fridge; were we had to count how many days we "make love" in the month (or how much we wished we could!); count the number of colours we are wearing (including underwear); or simply making rings. The different stitches were interesting and educational. I love learning new stitches and my favorite ones were the love knot (otherwise known as the solomon's knot) and star stitch.

I was given the honor of contributing a pattern on day 31. I chose to add a badge to our work and lots of beads.

I've made some wonderful friends this month on Ravelry and I hope to be involved with them in the future with a pass a round freeform cal that's in the ideas works. I've enjoyed this years cal sooo much that I'm looking back on previous years works and making more.

Star Stitch Baby Blanket Pattern

I wanted to make a blanket using my favorite stitch, the Star Stitch, but I couldn't find one. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough but it gave me the spark to make the pattern (and the blanket) for myself. This blanket is for my Sister Ruth who is having her first baby this year. I love you sis, this is dedicated to you, with lots of love.

Materials

6.50mm K Hook

Any DK worsten weight yarn. I used Robin 400g yarn. Finished blanket weighs in at 317g.

Scissors

Sewing needle (for weaving in ends)

Special Stitch: Star Stitch

Make a chain, draw up a loop in the 2nd chain from hook and again in the next 5 chains, yarn over and pull yarn through all loops on hook, chain 1, put hook into the eye of the chain 1 and draw up a loop, put hook into chain of last chain that you drew up a loop on last star and draw up a loop, draw up a loop in next 3 chains, yarn over and pull yarn through all loops on hook, chain 1 and repeat process.

Pattern In American terms.

Chain 114

Row 1: Star Stitch to the end, draw a loop through last eye and in last chain (from last star), ch 1, turn.

Row 2: 3 sc in eye of star and in each eye across, slip stitch in last stitch, ch 2, turn (37 stars).

Repeat rows1 - 2 till you have 62 rows, ending with row 2. At end of row 2, chain 1 instead of 2 and turn.

DO NOT FASTEN OFF

Small scalloped edging

Rd 1: sc in each stitch to the corner (111 sc), 3 sc in the corner, sc across to the next corner (92 sc), 3 sc in the corner, sc across to next corner – make sure you go through each chain (111 sc), 3 sc in corner, sc across to next corner (92 sc), 3 sc in corner.

Rd 2: sc in the first stitch, 2 dc in same stitch, skip a stitch, slip stitch in next stitch, * sc, 2 dc in next stitch, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in next. Repeat from *. In corners do (sc, 2 dc, sc) in same stitch.

Note : If you get to the end of the row, 1 stitch before the corner, just slip stitch in that stitch and carry on.

Join with a slip stitch in the first sc. FASTEN OFF.

We went to Chorley today for some shopping fun. My bf and our little boy went to GameStation and I ventured towards the clothes shops. I was hoping to get a jumper but they were all cardigans, so I ended up just getting a couple of vests for my summer wardrobe.
After a light lunch (beef and mushroom sandwich, yum!) I thought I'd go check in at the British Heart Foundation and see if they had any wool in.....well, they did and I had the lot! For only £4 too! BARGAIN!! Woo Hoo!

And here it is...my homeless yarn. I now have too much yarn and don't have a home for it. I don't think I've convinced my bf that I really need it. I did want it though :D

My Bf bought Burnout paradise The Ultimate Pack. This game looks fun, I do love crashing and bashing up my car :D This was a bargain too, only £2.99. An excellent bargain hunting day to be had by all.

Variations of a Theme Afghan

At the start of this year, Carolyn Christmas over at Gourmet Crochet started a crochet along with style. The Theme was variations on shells and was to be an afghan (blanket).

I loved the idea of making this for a housewarming gift for my brother Mark, so I signed up to this straight away.

Each day Carolyn posted up a pattern of a square (each one different) and 4 variations of rectangles, until we built up a sizeable blanket. A choice of joining the squares was posted too. I went for the flat braid join. This meant no ridgeing on the rear of the blanket. A boarder was the last things to hook around the blanket which really made the piece look great.
I mostly used yarn from my stash, but when I did the boarder I used a dark purple. I felt this tied all the colours together and my brother and his gf like purple, so that was handy :D

Busy Busy Busy Getting snapped making a Sweater Bag

I recently got the crochet that fits book by Mary Jane Hall from my local library. I was busy working away at the bag I've been itching to make for AGES when my sneaky boyfriend took a pic of me! So here I am in my happy little rut (sofa) with the lappy on my legs hooking away. I'm really impressed with this book, there are a few things I would like to make from it, even the black dress on the cover. I'm not sure sure I would suit it with my slightly large frame though. Maybe when I get better and start exercising again. I'm really tempted to buy this for myself. Maybe next month. I've already been on a little spending spree. I got a lot of yarn and a book! I've also got some new jeans from New Look. My other ones disappeared (my favorite ones too). So I've had to get another pair! I gave them plenty of chances to get themselves found but they mustn't have heard me! They are a pair of jeans after all! They don't have ears! That would look silly!

Earflap Hat for my little Bo

My little man needed a new hat so I made him a new one. He chose the colour red and I added the blue for contrast.

I got the pattern over at Ravelry. Its called Kid's Earflap hat byTiffany Roan a great design!
I added the twisted tassles at the top. This is really easy to do and only takes a few minutes.Pattern for this as follows:
with your selected yarn and hook, chain 20, 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in each chain across. Do not fasten off.
Chain 20, 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in each chain across. slip stitch in beginning of first tassle.

Repeat the process as many times as you like. When your done just cut and fasten off. weave in end and attach to the hat or garment.

Teressa over at The art of Crochet hosted a Holiday Giveaway over the Christmas and New Year holidays. The prize to 3 lucky winners was a pack of crochet hooks and a Crochet magazine. I didn't think I would be lucky enough to win but I put my name in the hat anyway and to my surprise I received an email on New Years day giving me the good news that I was one :D Nearly 2 weeks later (snow, snow and customs, snow and ice), Mr Postman delivered my prize to me! I was as giddy as a schoolgirl as the picture portrays, showing off my things to you all. I had the pictures taken fast cause I wanted to get into my new hooks and look through the magazine which has some wonderful patterns in it.

I've been a fan on Teressa's since I first started to learn crochet. She's been my inspiration and my tutor in the art of learning crochet over the internet. Her video on YouTube have been a lifeline when I've been confused with anything crochet.

Web of Winter Hat

Here is a new hat I've made for myself. Its toasty warm and quite stylist to boot. So many times I've made things for others that look great on me, then I go and make something for myself and I look like a bag of crap! Well not this time :D

Credit goes to Natalie Thouret over at Token's Hooky Love for such a great pattern.
It's not obvious in the picture but I used two colours for this. The pattern called for chunky yarn but I didn't have enough in my stash, so I used a green aran yarn (Robin 400) that I had left over from a shawl I'd make for my smum for Christmas and a light blue double knit yarn (stylecraft special). The pattern also calls for 6.5 and 5.5mm hooks but I didn't have a 6.5mm hook at the time, so I used a 7mm which worked just as well.
I've had a few great comments from people when I've been shopping wondering where I got it from. I was proud to tell them that I made it from my fair hands and it cost me a bean to make :D My partner has said I should make some more and sell them on ebay or something but I still don't think I'm ready to sell my wears. Maybe when I start making my own patterns :D

Clothes for Ickle babes in need

As I mentioned in the last post, I've been hookin up a storm. Some of the things I've been making are for little babies. These are going to wing there way to a charity in Scotland called Loving Hands. The yarn I've used is James C Brett Super Soft baby 4 ply. At only £1.40 a ball its quite a bargain and lovely and soft for what I need for this project.
I've made a baby blanket using a basic granny square technique, in Lemon and Lilac and finished it with an edge from Crochet Edges and Trims by Susan Smith and a conical shell from the same book.

I've also made some little lilac baby booties and lemon and lilac bib too.

As I've grown more confident with my crochet skills I thought I'd try and make a jumper (as I'm on a roll). This is done is Tunisian Crochet which makes the stitches really soft and squidgy.

And last but no means least I've make a little cardigan which was really lovely to make.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a great time :D

We've had an unseasonal amount of snow this year (more than zero for this time of year). We all had a great time building snowmen yesterday and today we've been greeted with more snow!! This is AMAZING!!!! I'm started to believe in a White Christmas after all!

Our little one even made a snow angel.

We got together with our nextdoor neighbour and family and made a MASSIVE snowman, he stands around 6ft tall. We had a great time!

Only thing is....we need to go out shopping! No food! We are not prepared for these conditions! The price we pay for having snow!

I asked my little boy last week if he would like me to make him some little bootie slippers and he said he'd love some as long as they were red and Christmas Tree green!
I've made his wish come true and they look like little elf shoes :D

Our 11 year old loved them and wanted a pair himself but in dark blue and white. He couldn't wait to put them on once I'd finished them.

I went to my local library yesterday to collect a book I'd been longing for, for some time. The book in question is The encyclopedia of Tunisian crochet by Angela Grabowski. I started reading it and I was overwhelmed by just how many different stitches I could potentially make. I've only known about 4 so far.
As I was reading this amazing book, I came to the conclusion that I must buy this and I can see a few designs on the horizon that I can design. I was so excited by this I dug out a hook and tried out a few stitches and in the process I started to freeform. Going first one way, then the other, couple of single crochet then Tunisian knit, Simple or purl went in there. A few bits of everything seemed to go into it and when I sat back to see what I have made....a sock!! I couldn't believe it! I just had to laugh!! My lesson is: I've your bored, freeform! You never know what you might create!

Hi Guys and Gals, sorry about not posting for a while, I've been busy hooking up some Christmas pressies for my nearest and dearest and I've been busy baking a choccy cake! It was my first time baking a chocolate cake and WHAT A MESS I made!!! With a normal sponge cake you just wack all the ingredients in one bowl...not with choc cake!!! you've got to melt stuff before you mix it with the rest of the stuff and the mountain of washing up I've got to do now is too daunting to look at!! I'll do it tomorrow, I promise.
Well, like I said, I've been a busy bee with my crochet and I've got lots of pictures to show you. I'll post them up soon, I promise.
I've got my eyes on making some socks and some arm warmers, so its a busy week for me. I hope you are all well and keeping busy too. :D

Yes that's right! We are only.....I dunno? a few weeks away now and I thought I'd whip up some quick and easy Christmas Tree ornaments. Beansprout has been making the patterns and posting them every Tuesday for her 12 weeks of Christmas Cal.
I love her patterns, so much that I made these 3 today :D Well have got to do something when I'm doing nothing! I've crocheted a Christmas wreath, stocking and poinsettia.

Happy Halloween (warning - my ugly mug in pictures!)

Happy Halloween All

I hope you all had a GREAT time! I know we did :D
We all went to a creepy Halloween party and had a SCREAMMMMM!!!!!

Here I am dressed as a witch. I was meant to be a Gothic fairy but I couldn't get hold of any black wings in time (postal strike put the stopper on that one). I really went to town with the hair and make up and scarily, I quite liked my look too. I may have my hair like this next time I go out! Well maybe a little, lol!

My partner also got in on the act and dressed up in his suit! I was shocked when he came downstairs as he only ever wears a suit when he has to (wedding,
christenings, funerals). I think he looks hot in his suit! I whitened his face and added black around his eyes to finish the look.
We was about to leave when he found a bow tie in the pocket of the suit, don't know where they came from, but he said that he could wear that next year to finish the outfit off. It really is a cheesy 70's bow tie, very Bowfinger!!

Finally my little boy dressed up (as he should). We got him a tabard with a
skull on it! He still looks very cute, he he!!

I've been making some wrist things to go over the satin gloves I've been lent for a Halloween party we've been invited to on Saturday. I'm going as a Gothic fairy. I like fairies but I only have a black dress so Gothic it is, lol. I'm making the wings with cardboard, paint and some black fun fur I've got at the bottom of my stash!! I may us some glitter too I also made the candy ornament on Beansprouts Blog.
I love her 12 weeks of Christmas CAL. I'm going to blog all my stuff when I've made them. I think they are great! She must have her tree set up to take the pictures though cause she's making it up as she goes!! Good on her!

Addicted to hookin...my latest work

Sorry I've not been blogging so much I've been hookin up some crochet stuff and I just could tear myself away from it!! I've made some lovely things (blowing own trumpet!!) for friends and family and I little something for my home. I've dusted the camera off and taken some photos to show you. I hope you like them.
The beanie with visor was been made with stylecraft sassy chunky wool in red, that I bought from a local wool shop for £6 for 10 balls (quite a bargain). I got the pattern from Vallieskids. Its a great pattern. I've made this twice, originally with a 6 mm hook (right picture) but on reflection it was too big for a child's hat, so I dug out the 5 mm hook and started again. The result is the hat on the left which has turned out splendid. I hope my friend likes this. I made her some armie fingerless gloves too but I've forgotten to take the picture. Happy Birthday petal, hugs and kisses going your way :D

I've been surfing the pages of Ravelry for a little while now and I found a great pattern for my lovely step mum for Christmas. I got hookin straight away with some Rowan Aran with wool 400. Again another bargain buy, I found it in a charity shop for 99p!! I just had to have it and its made the most wonderful shawl.
Here is my little boy once again modelling for me.
This took me a week to make and the only complicated part was the edging at the end but after a bit of hooking and working out I finally figure it out and finished it. I can't wait to give this to her at Christmas, she's going to love it!
Now something for the home.
I want to make a basket for the bathroom so I used a Halloween pattern for a candy basket and changed the colours to suit my own needs. I used about 50g each of green and blue double knit wool and it now resides in the bathroom to hold the toilet rolls and magazines. Before that area was a cluttered place and needed a basket to make it look right. Now when family and friends use the room they can read a magazine too :D

Crocheted Arm Warmers for Autumn Winter

As Autumn is here and its started to get nippy outside I thought I'd make something for our 10yo. He's into rock metal (O I can't remember specifically!! O my! My age is catching up with me!) So he said he'd like them in his fav colours, black and red! That's handy, cause I've got those colours in my stash!!
I found this pattern over at Ravelry but its really easy to make. You can find the pattern here at crochet me. I used two strands together to make this and I used nearly all of the 2, 100g balls.
He loves them and wears them in and outside of the house. No more cold armies here!!

Tunisian Crochet Cowl

I made this for my friends birthday and presented it to here yesterday. I think she likes it (she looked like she did anyway :))
This is of my own design and the first thing I've made using this technique. I like the way its turned out and is very snuggley to wear. This should keep her very warm when she's out and about!
I made this with one 100g ball of dk yarn in brown and a size 5mm hook. I decreased towards the end to give a slanted/ pointed end and finished it off with 3 large wooden buttons that I purchased at my local market.
I started off with 35 loops (different to crochet or knit) and went from there.
If you would like to know more I suggested visiting The art of Crochet Teressa's videos are the best by far! She taught me to crochet (through these vids) and now this technique.
If your thinking that this is WAY to hard and you can't possibly do this! Your WRONG!! Crochet is really easy and the best way is watching her vids!! Go on!!! Give it a go!! Whats the worst that could happen!

Head Hugger

Mini over at CFL found a really cool design for a girls hat over at Vallieskids with a free pattern. I immediately fell in love with the design. I had the perfect yarn for it too, Patons Zivargo. A lovely soft yarn with some give in it. Unfortunatly this yarn is now discontinued :( but it was only 99p from a local charity shop so I'm not complaining (well maybe a little). I used 2 balls of the 50gram balls and finished them with little butterflies. I think this came out great. My little boy is, once again, modeling this for me (he loves having his picture taken and he's my biggest fan :D). I hope it fits my intended girl's head?!

Colourful Carryall

I've been working on my crocheting a lot lately and I finally found something for my hooks that I really liked the look of. I found this pattern over at Crochet World and I just had to do it! Its a lovely design, and as well as making my very own I also adapted the pattern to make a mobile phone holder (didn't take a pic of it though) for a friend's birthday.
I used various double knit yarns/wools and a size 5mm hook.
I really enjoyed making this, I love the starry design and the colours really make it I think. I'm still thinking of ways to incorporate this design into other things. :)

I've lost my stitching Mojo!

I love cross stitching, I really do! but lately I've not been into it. It's upsetting but I must follow the flow of what takes me and right now my new obsession is crochet! I've been really getting into it of late and I've made some cool and not so cool things (all will be posted in time :D). I've also learnt to knit this week so expect some really strange things popping up!
I want my cross stitching mojo back! I may get it back after Christmas! Talking about Christmas (no don't - who said that!!) I've just made a plum pudding and snowman tree ornament (pictures to follow soon when I find my camera). I've been obsessing about making Christmassy things this week! I'm a lost cause, I know I am, but what can you do!! I'm just going with the flow and seeing where it takes me! It can only end good.

De'anna on CFL posted a link to a great blog for all of us who love crocheting and gaming. Its run by a person called WolfDreamer and they have some wicked patterns on there that you should check out NOW.

As well as some wicked crocheted game items (bubble bobble, fire flower, toad and toadetter, pokemon, to name a few) that have been done, they've also posted some patterns so we can give them a go too. There are some cool patterns you can purchase in her esty shop too.

I'll post up some of these when I've crochet them, so keep an eye on my blog for more....

Crafting update! Bargain Buys and published works!

I've been working on a pdf called 101 granny squares (ty Mini @ CFL) and I'm really enjoying myself. I'm quite hooked on crocheting now, so as a treat yesterday I went to the charity shop to see what I could find in bargain yarn and I came up trumps!!!

I got to big bags of assorted yarn for £5 (that's about $8.25). In it I got a cone of light blue yarn, some small bright balls, some balls of sport weight yarn, a few balls of mohair and some fluffy yarn (one is called rainbow wicked ostrich yarn) in blue and black. I think I got quite a deal and my partner is happy cause I don't need to spend money on yarn for a while :)

I'd like to give a big hug and kiss to Johloh for displaying my cross stitch of Pitt (his pattern) on his blog at SpriteStitch. I love it when I see my work published :)

This is my first time crocheting toys. I've always wanted to make a ghost since starting the craft, so when a friend on CFL posted the link for the pattern I jumped for joy and I couldn't wait to start hooking.
My first attempt was made with a 6mm hook and its come out cute but very holey. I loved making it so much I thought I'd give it another whirl and dug out my 4mm hook and started again. This immediatley felt right and the stitches where a lot tighter than my previous attempt.
When I finished them I gave them to my little boy. He loves them so much he insisted in posing for a photo with them.
As you can see, there is a clear different in size for such a small change in hooks. I've learnt a lot from making these. I'm starting to understand the craft more and I'm totally addicted.

Whist looking around for stitch markers to use for crochet I came across these little fellas and lady on Etsy. Its a shame a can't knit otherwise I'd get these. There soo cute.

I made this for a challenge over at crochet for life. The challenge is to make a square or motif that will be made into something else. It took me ages to figure something out to make but eventually I found this pattern on the site and set to work. This took me only a day to make. I figured out how to half double crochet ( really easy as it goes) and joining the two orange circles together whilst crocheting the yellow edging.
I think its too thin to be used as a pot holder but it does look pretty and is now hanging on the kitchen roll holder.
I made this with a size 6mm hook and bright orange and yellow value wool/yarn.

Super Smash Bros Pitt Cross Stitch Complete

It's taken me nearly a year to stitch this but finally its complete!!! I'm so excited I've taken the photos before I've washed and ironed it!!! I shall have to get a custom frame for this as I've not left enough fabric for it to go in a normal frame, but that's O.K. This was originally intended to be my step sons christmas 08 present but its taken me this long to get it done so now its a VERY VERY VERY late present!!! He's no longer into SSB but he still loves the cross stitch!! Good on ya la!

The only thing I missed off the original pattern was the shadowing that surrounded his feet.

My Dad loves reading and he loves the hobbit and Lord of the Rings so I thought for his birthday this year I would stitch him up one of the maps. I got started in making the pattern and realized that it would be huge and I don't think he would want something too big on his wall so I stuck to just the top middle section of the map and viola!!! The stitching itself too only a week to do, making the pattern took a lot longer!! It's 15 inches wide by 8 inches tall, and I've used 18 count ecru aida.

Day Out at the Steam Railway

My little boy loves trains, he loves Thomas the Tank Engine and Chuggington and could watch them all day if I let him, lol. So as its his 3rd birthday this week we went over to the steam railway at Preston Docks in Lancashire at the weekend. He got to look at all the old steam engines and have a ride on the railway. He even got to go in the engine and pull the whistle. I think that was his favourite!
The engine that pulled the carriages is in the picture above and the bday boy in the other.

Blue and White Ghan

I've been working on this a few weeks and I've finally got it finished!!! Its 5 by 5 squares, about 9-10 inches per square. I realize now why supersaver wool is used as this baby cost me just over £30! I used King Cole Magnum denim, Aero White and Multi denim. I think for my first full granny square ghan, it came out alright!!
This was such a joy to make, I will definatly be doing more in the future!!

I made this for my partner. He loves play CODwaw. We are going a wedding, so he needs to wear a tie. He never wears a tie!! This will be the first time I've seen him wear one!!
I made this using magic canvas which just disappears in when left in warm water for 5 to 10 mins. Its good stuff. Sewing through the tie wasn't to good though!! I broke a needle it was that hard to push through and my fingers really hurt now!!! I shall have to invest in a good thimble!

I was bored the other day and we were having boiled eggs for dinner, YUM!!! My Fav!! We have our eggs different, I like mine soft boiled and he likes his hard!! So to tell the difference I marked an egg!! I doodled this on my egg the other day!! I think he looks quite fetching. I wonder what else I can doodle on an egg?? Has anyone doodled on there eggs lately?? Do I need to get out more?? LOL. Probably!!!

I made this for my brother's birthday which was yesterday, happy birthday Frecks!! So I can now reveal this to you.
It took me three weeks to complete and its the most complicated and enjoyable piece I've done to date. I think I enjoyed it more cause its a present :) I especially Wow'd myself when I backstitched the face! I couldn't believe I'd just done something so detailed!

I've just set this up! It only took 5 mins!! I'm well impressed!

The reason I've set this up is because I love cross stitch and crochet! I especially love mixing the two and I've built up many pieces that I've shown off to my Friends and Family and on one of my fav sites Sprite Stitch!!

I've gotten to the point where I want somewhere of my own to show off my stuff to a larger forum and my own blog seemed the perfect progression.

I love video games and crafting stuff from them. I've also done non video game craft. I shall start showing off all my stuff soon.
